Mr. Gluckstern currently serves as Chairman of Ivivi Health Sciences LLC, a San Francisco based medical technology firm pioneering the development of targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapies and has potential therapeutic application with respect to over 25 diverse and significant inflammatory-based medical conditions. Mr. Gluckstern is also a Founder and Executive Chairman of Mortgage Resolution Partners LLC, a new company formed by business and community leaders whose mission is to work with municipalities and homeowners to help resolve the underwater mortgage and foreclosure crisis through the formation of locally based public-private-nonprofit partnerships. Previously Mr. Gluckstern was a general partner of Azimuth Trust Company, LLC. This alternative asset management firm provided asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and comprehensive risk management to both private and public sector investors with non-traditional financial investments, such as hedge and private equity funds. Mr. Gluckstern co-founded the firm in 2002 and served as its CEO until 2005. Mr. Gluckstern also worked for investor Warren Buffett and served as General Manager of reinsurance operations of the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group. Earlier he was Chief Financial Officer of Healthco Inc., the then largest distributor of dental products in the world.
In 1998, Mr. Gluckstern co-founded Capital Z Partners. This alternative asset/private equity management firm managed over $4 billion in two global funds: Capital Z Financial Services Fund II, LP and Capital Z Investments, LP. The latter specializes in sponsorship of new and emerging hedge fund and private equity fund managers. From 1993-1998 and 2001-2002, Mr. Gluckstern held a range of positions within the Swiss-based Zurich Financial Services Group including: Member of the Executive Committee of the Group’s Management Board; CEO of Zurich Global Assets (which oversaw the Groups’ then $500+ billion in assets under management and reinsurance portfolio); CEO (co-founder) of then NYSE-traded Zurich Re; Chairman and CEO (co-founder) of Zurich Centre Group (which included Centre Reinsurance); and Chairman of both Zurich Capital Markets and Scudder Mutual Funds/Zurich Scudder Investments.
Over the past 30 years Mr. Gluckstern has served on a wide range of both “for profit” and “not-for-profit” Boards including: The Board of Trustees of Amherst College, the National Hockey League Board of Governors (initially as co-owner of the Phoenix Coyotes and then as co-owner of the New York Islanders), the Advisory Council of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and as a director of Applied Sciences Inc. (a California based medical device manufacturer in the blood collection space.) He currently serves as a founding member of the Board of Directors of m2m International, a highly successful and internationally recognized South African based, US Government supported HIV/AIDS organization and The Jefferson Institute, which mobilizes creative thinkers (primarily MacArthur Prize Fellows) across disciplines to create inventive solutions and tangible results.
Mr. Gluckstern received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Natural Sciences and LH.D (honorary) from Amherst College. His Ed.D (concentration in Administration and Organizational Change) and LH.D.’04 (honorary) from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
